CULLMAN, Ala. – The North Alabama Agriplex offers several programs this summer. Below are  a few.

May 4: Farm Kids Club- Attracting Birds to your Backyard- 9-10:30 a.m.

Make a birdhouse and bird feeders.  Learn ways to attract these feathered friends to your home.

May 7: Living Landscapes- Combat Invasive Plants- 6 p.m.

Privet, bamboo, ivy, multiflora rose!  They are all growing in my yard! How do I get rid of them- forever!??  Hands-on demonstration with Extension’s Noah Bowling.

May 9: Heritage Skills- Hypertufa- 6 p.m.

Learn to make your own lightweight plant containers with Alabama Extension’s Raydonna Sims. Hypertufa looks like concrete. but it is lightweight. Limited space; $15 per person.

May 10: Little Famers- Sunflowers- 10-11 a.m.

April showers bring May flowers. We will plant flowers!  Sunflowers to be exact.

May 15: Lunch & Learn- Raised Bed Gardening- noon-1 p.m.

Free program with door prizes at each event.  New topic every month. Call 256-297-1044 to reserve your seat.  Bring your own lunch.

May 23: Heritage Homeschool- Wildlife- 9-11 a.m.

Wildlife plays an important role in Alabama history.  Let’s explore some of our more prominent wildlife as we learn to identify them and their habitats with experts from the Alabama Trappers and Predator Control Association.

The cost is $8 per child, $16 per family.

May 25: Blacksmith Workshop- 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Taught by Allan Kress; Limited space for adults and kids ages 14-17 with supervising adult.  Maximum of 10 students.

June 1: Farm Kids Club- Horse Talk- 9-10:30 a.m.

Learn the basics of horses from care to gaits. Meet horse up close- we won’t ride but we will pet!

June 4: Living Landscapes- Training Trees; the First 25 Years- 6 p.m.

ISA Certified Arborist Lee McBride will discuss pruning young trees with the goal of developing strong tree structure with one dominant stem.

June 5, 19, 26: Garden Camp- 9-11 a.m.

Campers work in raised beds at the Agriplex and take home projects to continue.

June 6, 7: Winston County Touring Farms for Kids- 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

$25 per person. See Winston County Extension Office for registration, 205-489-5376

June 12, 13: 19th Annual Touring Farms for Kids- 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

Two days of farm tours in Cullman County. Food and T-shirts will be provided. Paying parents are welcome to attend, but may need to drive separately.

July 18,19: Nature Day Camp

Hurricane Creek Park, Echota Cherokee Tribal Land, and Earthworks Environmental Ed Center; New camp exploring our natural world and our Native American Heritage with adventure activities including hiking, canoeing, heritage crafts and storytelling.

For ages 10-14, $35 per person.

July 15-19: Sewing 101- 9 a.m.-noon

For ages 7-12 and 5-6 with an adult. Sewing Camp 101 is designed for children interested in learning to sew. Campers will learn the basics of hand sewing while making projects to take home.

The cost is $40.

July 22-26: Sewing Camp 102- 9 a.m.-noon

For ages 9-18. Sewing Camp 102 is designed for Sewing Camp alumni who want to expand their sewing skills by reviewing hand stitching and moving on to machine sewing. Each camper will bring their own sewing machine to learn on by making easy projects to take home. This is beginner Sewing Machine basics, no previous machine experience required.

The cost is $40.

Aug. 10: Sewing Camp 103- 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

For ages 9-18. This workshop is designed for Sewing 102 alumni who want to further their sewing experience by learning pattern reading and make a project from their own pattern. Sewing machine experience required. Campers will learn to read a pattern, to purchase fabric, follow pattern directions and complete one project to take home.

The cost is $25.
