CULLMAN – On April 25, 2013, Cullman city officials and Bass Fishing Hall of Fame board members traveled to the Auburn University Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures to learn more about the department and to discuss the goals for the planned Bass Fishing Hall of Fame (BFHOF) in Cullman.
“We thoroughly enjoyed meeting with the Auburn Fisheries Department officials and staff,” commented Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson who represented the City of Cullman along with Parks & Recreation Director John Hunt and Economic Development Agency Assistant Director Dale Greer. “They were very cordial and absolutely loved the idea of the Cullman Bass Fishing Hall of Fame being a teaching instrument, as well.”

Cullman Gymnastics & Cheer Academy showcase talents at annual jamboree
CULLMAN – Over the rain soaked weekend members of the Cullman Gymnastics & Cheer Academy gathered at the Cullman Civic Center to display their skills in front of family, friends and fellow athletes during the academy’s annual Spring Jamboree.
Tamika Powell knows a bit about the bonding cheerleading can produce, as she is former cheerleader. Powell currently has three daughters taking part in classes at the academy. She said by keeping children occupied with activities they enjoy, it will only help to make for a well-rounded child.
“I think it helps them all the way around, not only physically but I think academically because when they are involved in extracurricular activity it helps to make them well-rounded,” said Powell.

CULLMAN – The melodic words reverberate throughout the auditorium: “My home is in my heart. My heart is in my home,” Dorothy chants. This is the timeless tale of The Wizard of Oz, Cullman style.
At home in the vast expansion of the Cullman Civic Center are the talented children of our city and counties participating in the annual tradition of Missoula Children’s Theatre International Tour, set to perform the beloved classic we all watched in Technicolor television many years ago.
The MCT tour group is a traveling trailblazer with an edgy entrepreneurial spirit. They travel anywhere and everywhere helping children realize their potential and passion in the performance arts through a weeklong theatrical boot camp of auditions, casting, rehearsal and performance.
The employees average a working total of 40 out of 52 weeks in a year out on the road. 2013 will see them off to all 50 states and 17 different countries, enabling them to work with 65,000 children.

Historic bridge and park in the holiday spirit
CULLMAN – Clarkson Covered Bridge was first built in the year 1904 and is considered a true icon of America’s rich past. The bridge, which stretches approximately two hundred and seventy feet over the Crooked Creek, was once a proud scenic sight for the community of Cullman, but in recent years the tourism has dropped off.
“It’s one of Cullman County’s most forgotten parks,” said Brandy Overton, who is over customer service at Clarkson Covered Bridge.
Mrs. Overton was raised near the area and remembers spending time at the bridge. Every weekend you could drive down county road 1043 and see families celebrating birthdays, enjoying a picnic, or just stopping by and exploring the area and its surroundings. That has changed however, and the park is not what it was only fifteen or twenty years ago.
“This park has not been getting as much funding as the other parks,” said Overton.
