Cullman Caring for Kids Assistant Director Nancy Bryant and Director Javon Daniel joined Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson on March 22, 2013, as he proclaimed the month of April 2013 “National Child Abuse Awareness Month” in the City of Cullman

CULLMAN – On March 22, 2013, Cullman Mayor Max A. Townson proclaimed the month of April 2013 “Child Abuse Awareness Month” in the City of Cullman. During the month of April, and throughout the year, the City of Cullman encourages all citizens and organizations to play a role in making Cullman a better place for families by helping to prevent child abuse.

Child abuse is a very real problem in our society. Every ten seconds, a child is abused. Every day in America, four children die from child abuse or neglect. Over 3 million children are reported abused or neglected each year, with over 1,000 dying from their injuries and many others carrying the burden of their maltreatment into adulthood.

Abused children are more likely to suffer from substance abuse, depression, learning disabilities, school failure, emotional and behavioral disorders, criminal activity, and an inability to foster healthy relationships.

Greentree Circle Renamed Cooper Circle

CULLMAN – Greentree Circle, a private street in the Greentree Apartment complex, has been officially renamed “Cooper Circle” in honor of the long-time service of Mr. James Cooper. Mr. Cooper was surprised by the name change at a gathering at Greentree Apartments on Thursday, January 31, 2013.

When Greentree Apartments and Veigl Village Apartments were constructed in the late 1980s, the owner, MBH Properties, formed a management company to oversee and run both complexes. Mr. Cooper had worked with Hendrix Construction Company on the construction of both complexes, and was a life-long friend of those who formed MBH Properties. He was asked if he would be interested in taking charge of the responsibilities of the management company. He agreed and the name “Cooper Property Management” was chosen as the management company’s name.

2013 Business Licenses Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

CULLMAN – Annual business license renewals begin in January 2013 for all businesses operating in the City of Cullman. This year, the business licenses will be printed on bright pink paper to help increase awareness of breast cancer.

Cancer has touched the lives of many in our community, and across our nation. It is estimated that more than 200,000 women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. The City of Cullman honors those who have dealt with breast cancer, and wants to encourage our citizens to find out more about this disease, what the risk factors are, and what they can do to ensure that it is detected in its early stages when it can be most effectively treated.
