CULLMAN, Ala. – Members of the Cullman Tree Commission were on-site at the Cullman County Extension Office Monday, Feb. 5, to judge and choose a handful of winning posters created by area students for the annual Arbor Day Poster Contest.

Students from four schools participated in the contest, submitting their creations in hopes of being chosen and snagging a cash prize – or the top local prize, an Arbor Day-themed quilt.

The theme of this year’s contest is “Trees are Terrific… in Cities and Towns!” Students spent their time depicting their visions for the theme, bringing ideas and creativity to life on paper with pencil, pen, crayon, markers or watercolors.

The posters have been judged and first- and second-place winning posters from each participating school have been chosen by the Cullman Tree Commission, with a ceremony planned for Feb. 20 to recognize the winners.

Winners will receive a cash prize, courtesy of the commission, increased from the prize amounts of previous years. Each school’s first-place winner will be awarded $50 and the second-place winner will be awarded $25. The overall winner chosen by the Cullman Tree Commission will travel to Montgomery to compete at the state level.
