CULLMAN, Ala. – Pentastar South Car Club has a passion not only for Mopar builds, but also for giving back to the community. For over five years, the club has been organizing “Mopars by the Lake,” a gathering of Mopar-powered vehicles with all funds raised going back to Alabama Credit Union’s Secret Meals for Hungry Children initiative. This year, the club was able to give $3,800 to the initiative, helping make a sizable impact in the fight against food insecurity.

Club member Brenda Allison said that in her time as an educator she realized just how severe the local food insecurity crisis is, and how crucial Secret Meals is for those children.

“Secret Meals packs backpacks for those students that have been identified as needing something to eat on the weekend,” she said. “The reality is, there are kids who come to school just to eat.”

Allison also noted that the Mopars event certainly isn’t a one-woman show; local businesses, car enthusiasts and volunteers as far as New Orleans team up to continue to make an impact every year.

Allison gave a special shoutout to longtime show sponsor Cullman Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM. She said General Manager Scott Spitzer stays ready to answer the call. “When it comes to the show, my sponsors are always ready,” she said. “I call Scott at Cullman Dodge and ask if he is going to sponsor again, and he never hesitates to say yes. It’s people like him that make the show successful!”

Allison also praised Alabama Credit Union, saying its representatives don’t just show up to collect the check; they truly put in the work at the event.

“Laurie Legg and her team, they come set up at the show each year to educate people about the program, and are there to help in any way that I need help,” she said.
