CULLMAN – Members of the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, Cullman City officials and Marvin's representatives met Friday morning to cut the ribbon on the building supply store’s new location at 4933 Alabama Highway 157, the site of the former Piggly-Wiggly. Marvin’s moved from its previous location on Main Avenue Southwest.

The Chamber performed a traditional ribbon cutting, and afterward Marvin's employees did their own version, cutting a piece of lumber.

Chamber President and CEO Leah Bolin said the new location for the store is a great choice.

“I think just being in this beautiful new building is going to be a good re-surge for the company that has been here so long,” said Bolin. “It's given them more room to do some of the things that they wanted to do, and it gives (customers) a presence on the north side that we haven't had, and we like convenience. If you're living on the north end of the county it's just convenient to just run here really quickly. If you're working on a home project, you don't want to take all day to do that.”

Marvin's has been serving the Cullman area's building supply needs for 29 years.

“They're the same company that they've always been for almost 30 years in our community,” Bolin said. “It's really going to be good for all of our communities. We're excited about the continuing growth of the community and we look forward to more.”

Robert Williams, regional vice president of Central Network Retail Group, which owns Marvin's, said the new location is convenient for customers.

“The feedback that we're getting right now is that it saves (customers) time,” said Williams. “They really supported Marvin's over the last 29 years, and to have us on this end of town, they don't need to drive across town now to shop at their local Marvin's or go to the competition. So having us here and accessible, the customers have responded very well. They're appreciative.”

According to Williams, one service that Marvin's offers really sets them apart from others.

“What really make us different than (other building supply stores) out there is that we have a drive-through lumber yard that really makes it very convenient for our customers,” Williams said. “They can drive in, they can check out the quality of the lumber and the products, get loaded up, come in and basically make their purchase and be on their way. Unlike other retailers, (where) you have to really go into the store and load it up yourself, everything like that. We want to make sure that our customers know that they can drive in, we can help them pick out their lumber, we can help them load up their material and get them on their way and get on to the project.”

Although the ribbon cutting was Friday morning, the grand reopening will be all day Saturday, Sept. 1.

“(Saturday) we'll have vendors from Milwaukee Tool, vendors like Traeger to support us for the event and have giveaways for the customers and catering provided by Southern Hickory,” Williams explained. “But the big thing here is we're going to take 10 percent off for everything inside the building. We already provide that affordable price for our customer, but to give that extra 'Hey, thanks for stopping, thanks for checking us out', we’re going to give them an extra 10 percent off for (Saturday).”

Williams said Marvin's is a business that thrives on community.

“I just would like everyone to know that we're the same Marvin's from 73 years ago,” said Williams. “We enjoy being rooted in our communities. We enjoy being the neighborhood home center, where people love to shop, and the associates love to work. We're very proud of that.”
