Tide star Jonathan Allen poses with a fan on Saturday, March 11 at Outfitters Cullman.

CULLMAN – Agents Justin Crisler and Jeremy Ragland brought a very special guest to town over the weekend; Outfitters Cullman hosted an autograph signing with former Alabama Crimson Tide standout and projected first-round pick in the NFL draft, Jonathan Allen.

“It’s cool getting to meet some of the fans on a normal day-to-day basis that I wouldn’t get to see or have interaction with,” Allen told the Cullman Tribune. “I enjoy it. I have fun; I love talking to them, just listening to them talk. It is a cool thing.”

Apparently, the fans were just as eager to meet the defensive lineman, who led Alabama to the college football championship in 2015, as they spent their Saturday afternoon in the cold, dreary weather for a chance to meet the 2016 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Although the signing didn’t start until 1 p.m., fans of Allen and the Crimson Tide started lining up at Outfitters as early as 9 a.m. Fans could have their own personal item, or one purchased from Outfitters, autographed and have their photos taken with Allen, a steal at $50 dollars, fans could have their item, or one purchased from Outfitters, signed and have their picture taken with Allen. All in all, more than 100 fans descended on the relatively new business and had more than 400 items signed, including mail-ins and private signing pieces.

This is the third Alabama great Outfitters has brought to Cullman, the other two being Trent Richardson and Glenn Coffee.

“It is great exposure,” said owner/operator Aaron Cook of the opportunity to hold such events like Allen’s first public signing since turning pro. “It allows us the opportunity to let fans meet their hero.”

Outfitters opened its Cullman location in 2015, selling all manner of sports apparel from Alabama and Auburn gear to local high school T-shirts. But what makes Outfitters stand out from other collegiate clothiers is the generosity they show the community.

“Our stores help fund our nonprofit youth camp,” Cook said. “Our love of sports and local business made (opening our shops) a no-brainer. We have enjoyed serving Cullman and the surrounding community.”

Outfitters Cullman is located at 1708 Second Ave. SW next to Ninja. Find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/outfitterscullman.
