CULLMAN – Specialty retail store Five Below, whose products are aimed at pre-teen and teen customers and are all priced at $5 and below, will open in the Cullman Shopping Center in mid-late July. The store will be in the location of the former Hancock Fabrics.

“Five Below is one of the fastest growing retailers in the country and we are excited about the addition of this merchant to the Cullman Shopping Center and the community,” said Susan Eller, project coordinator with the Cullman Economic Development Agency. “The Cullman location is one of only (seven) stores to open in the state of Alabama. The other location has opened in Trussville.”

Eller continued, “With the closure of Hancock Fabrics, it left a hole in the Cullman Shopping Center and we are pleased that gap was filled so quickly. Five Below caters to teens, pre-teens and their parents. This fills a gap that I’m sure a lot of our younger citizens will enjoy!”

Merchants Retail Partners (MRP), a Birmingham-based real estate investment firm, will open the store. MRP also brought Publix, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Ross Dress for Less, Ulta Beauty and PetSmart to the Cullman Shopping Center.

“Five Below is a great addition to our lineup.  With Cullman’s low unemployment and strong school system, more and more retailers have identified this trade area as untapped with great potential” said Bill Leitner, managing principal at MRP.

Five Below was founded in 2002, and is headquartered in Philadelphia, with approximately 550 stores in 32 states.  For more information, please go to www.fivebelow.com.
