HANCEVILLE – The Evelyn Burrow Museum on the campus of Wallace State Community College opened its newest exhibit Tuesday night and the artist himself was on-hand to meet a robust crowd of guests. Daniel A. Moore greeted fans and signed autographs during the opening reception and there was an excited crowd of Crimson Tide fans there to meet him. The exhibit features several of Moore’s most famous original paintings; a bronze sculpture by Moore is also on display.

“We are very pleased to be able to show the work of such an amazing artist, especially during the height of football season,” said Donny Wilson, director of the Burrow Museum. “This exhibit is something we’ve been working on for a while, and we anticipate attendance by many visitors from Cullman County and beyond who appreciate Moore’s talent and subject matter.”

The museum’s administrator, Kristen Holmes, is excited to see this idea come to fruition and talked about how the museum was able to establish a connection with Moore.

“We’ve wanted to host an exhibition of Daniel Moore’s work for a long time so we’re very excited to be able to open this tonight, especially during football season,” Holmes said. “David Moore who does Good Life Magazine in Cullman is Daniel’s brother, so we found the connection that way. He was gracious enough to make the introduction with Daniel and Daniel seemed open to the idea, so we’re thrilled that it’s here, and it looks so good in our museum. The lights really show off the paintings and it just looks amazing.”

Combining sports and art into one exhibit is something the museum was very interested in and has found a lot of success with in the past. Holmes is hopeful that the mix will attract new faces to the facility.

“That was one of the big draws for us. In hosting this exhibition, we thought about Robin Cummings’ Nike shoe collection that we had here several years ago and that was huge. We had people coming from all over the country to see the shoes and that really made us realize how important it is to have a genre of paintings or art that appeals to a wide variety of people,” Holmes said. “It gives us a great opportunity to bring people into the museum that may not otherwise want to come.”

Admission is free, and the exhibit will be open until Nov. 2. The Evelyn Burrow Museum is located on the campus of Wallace State Community College and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday – Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
