CULLMAN, Ala. – An estimated 27 riders mounted up for the Cullman County Bosom Buddies Foundation (CCBBF) sixth annual Bikers Against Cancer Ride Saturday. Riders, escorted by the Blue Knights AL VIII, Cullman County Sheriff’s Office and Guntersville Police Department (when approaching Lake Guntersville State Park), followed a scenic route from Cullman Regional, taking a rest stop at the park before returning to the hospital.

The CCBBF’s Mary Dyer addressed the riders, thanking them for coming and said, “One-hundred percent of our money goes to people that need help.”

The nonprofit was founded in February 2013, originally a support group.

Said Dyer, “We wanted to help people in Cullman who weren’t getting any help.”

She smiled, “We have helped so many people. We want people out there to know we are here, we want to help them; all they have to do is come and talk to the nurse navigator, and they’ll call us and we’ll take care of them.”

The CCBBF is a 501(c3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide financial assistance to Cullman area cancer patients who are experiencing financial hardships during their treatments. All donations are used for cancer patients in the Cullman County area.

“We’ve just done a little bit of everything,” said Dyer, who estimated the CCBBF has given close to $30,000 this year. “We want people out there to know that, you know this is our Foundation and we’re here to help everybody, with all kinds of cancer, not just breast cancer.”

Dyer also noted the Foundation is completely anonymous with whomever it helps.

Of Saturday’s ride, Dyer shared, “I feel good about it. It’s a joy to make the money, but it’s better to give it away.”

The CCBBF also raises money by selling turkeys in November and this year will have a formal “Pink Dress and Tie” event Oct. 1 with a silent auction at Top of the Town.
