  • Polar Bear Plunge, 10 a.m. in the outdoor pool

Participants in the Polar Bear Plunge will be entered in a drawing for a free, one-year full-family membership to CWAC, and Director Aleah DeBoer said, “The Polar Bear will be onsite for photos with the kids!”

CWAC membership includes access to the:

  • fitness center and weight room with available trainer-assisted weight, core and flexibility training
  • indoor aquatic center that offers water aerobics and stretch kickboard classes, as well as recreational swimming
  • Wild Water outdoor water park featuring eight-lane competition pool, low and high diving boards, slides and other play features, splash station and drift river

“We are very excited about the 2020 Community Wellness Week at the Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center as we have several new vendors coming out and a lot of new and exciting benefits and offerings,” said DeBoer. “This is a special time of year for those looking to improve their overall health and wellness, and we love being part of anyone’s wellness journey.  Some of the membership benefits include 24/7/365 fitness access, constant upgrades to fitness equipment and fitness classes, an aquatics facility that is one of the cleanest and most well-kept in the state, childcare, as well as an excellent staff.  One of the new and exciting fitness classes we now offer is 10-41’s ‘GoToWork’ led by strength coach Jeff Hannah and physical therapist Courtney Green.  The GTW class has been very popular, and we are excited to see the benefits members are receiving from their expertise.  Classes such as Cardio Party, HIIT, Yoga, Cycle and Water Aerobics continue to be popular, and we love having an excellent fitness staff who keep it fresh and exciting all year.”

She continued, “For aquatics, we have new water park slides that were completed just last summer and a beautiful new floor for indoor aquatics.  Aquatics Director Dianne Evans and her lifeguard staff are amazing and make the aquatics area a lot of fun for members and guests.  We are so fortunate for their desire to help and welcome anyone who comes through our doors.  We will continue to offer our popular birthday party and company picnic rentals.  For the 2020 season, we are excited about some new and exciting changes for the water park, including earlier twilight times during the week, more members-only swim times and additional days for private party rentals, as well as the return of our annual Dive-In Movie series. We truly want the CWAC to be a one-stop-shop for the community’s fitness and recreation needs.  The benefit of our childcare service allows parents to focus on themselves for up to two hours at a time. We cannot brag enough on our childcare staff and how much they mean to CWAC and to so many of our members.”

Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Acting Executive Director Christy Turner told The Tribune, “Community well-being is one of Cullman Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism’s main goals and we are fortunate to have CWAC as a major component of this focus.  Our mayor, city council and community leaders also recognize and support this effort and are tireless supporters of this mission for our community.  We look forward to seeing everyone during this week as we kick off 2020 with wellness as a focus.”
