CULLMAN – Mother Nature showed out on Friday, causing the postponement of the 6A baseball quarterfinal series between no. 1 ranked Cullman and no. 3 Decatur. The series has been rescheduled for Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m. at Bill Shelton Field on the Cullman campus. Tickets that have been already sold will be honored.  Game 3, if needed, is now set for Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The baseball playoff will add to a busy day as far as sports activity is concerned. The 1A/3A state track meet will be well into its final day on Saturday at Oliver Woodard Stadium, when baseball takes to the field for a highly anticipated playoff matchup.

Decatur is 32-3, champions of Area 15 and boasts a talented player in pitcher/shortstop Tanner Burns, who has committed to Auburn University.

Cullman is 33-7, champions of Area 14 and has dominated the opposition in the playoffs, outscoring McAdory and Walker 42-2. Cullman's pitching has recorded three shutouts in four games with Jacob Heatherly, Will Morrison, Levi Thomas, Kade Williams and others well rested and ready to resume work on the mound.

The victor gets the winner of Hueytown at Hartselle. This series took Friday off due to wet conditions at Sparkman Park. The series will be at 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday and TBA on Monday, if needed.

Golf teams ready for next round of the postseason:

Fairview and Good Hope have their varsity and varsity girls in the next segment of the AHSAA golf postseason, the sub-state round.

Fairview was third in the AHSAA Class 5A, District 3 Tournament at Chesley Oaks, with Josh Barnes shooting a 79 and Hunter McKelvy an 80 during a wind advisory. Hunter Yeager added a 90 to the total and Carter Robertson finished with a 91.

The Lady Aggies claimed a runner-up berth in the Section 2 Tournament at Limestone Springs Course in Oneonta.

Maci Yeager carded a 90 to lead the performance with Emmy Leigh Glover a 97, Brileigh Roberts 102 and Hope Bowen 108.

Good Hope's Raiders used an even par from low medalist Cole Pearson, plus other good scores to secure fourth place in the 4A, Section 2 Tournament at Musgrove Country Club in Jasper.

Supporting the 71 from Pearson, the Cullman County champion, was Josh Cofer with an 84, John King 103 and Riley Eisner 107.

History was made when the Good Hope Lady Raiders locked up fourth place in the Section 2 Tournament at Limestone Springs, qualifying for the sub-state for the first time.

Taryn Collins, who has been steady all season, guided the Lady Raiders with a 107.

Each team will play their sub-state on Monday at a different location:

  • Good Hope – South 3 Sub-State at Arrowhead Country Club Montgomery
  • Good Hope Girls – South 2 Sub-State at Troy Country Club
  • Fairview – North 4 Sub-State at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro
  • Fairview Girls – North 2 Sub-State at Goose Pond Colony in Scottsboro

The top two teams and the top two individuals will qualify for the state tournament May 15-16 at Grand National Course in Auburn.
