BAILEYTON - The Baileyton Town Council on Monday night approved the construction specifications for Baileyton’s new town hall and will begin accepting sealed bids starting Nov. 6 through Nov. 30. The town hall will be built on the property adjacent to the current building and will be similar to the style of the Baileyton Senior Center (see photo below).

Mayor Johnny Dyar said of the new building, “There will be two offices, conference room, kitchen, two bathrooms and handicap accessibility throughout the building.”

The sealed bids for the construction will be opened at the Dec. 3 council meeting.

Bids will also be accepted to lease the approximately 17 acres of hayfields recently acquired by the Town. Those bids will also be accepted from Nov. 6 through Nov. 30 and opened at the Dec. 3 meeting. The fencing, posts and Bradford Pear trees currently on the property will be removed. The highest bidder will enter into a one-year lease with the understanding that the Town will be removing these features with a backhoe.

Progress is being made in the ongoing upgrades to the town’s ball fields. The recent rain has caused some delays, but the council is pleased with the work so far.

Dyar and the council members were thrilled by last Thursday’s visit to Parkside School by the cast of “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” Warner Bros. and “The Today Show.” (See www.cullmantribune.com/articles/2018/11/01/wizarding-world-descends-park...)

Dyar said, “It was great, and it definitely helped put our town on the map. Those three teachers, the kids, and especially principal (Richard) Orr have done a great job.”

Councilman Wendell Peterson laughed, “I went home and got the first ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film and watched it. Those guys seemed to really enjoy themselves. They stayed longer playing games with the kids than was planned. They wanted to stay.”

Dyar thanked the community, law enforcement and the school for everything they did to make the day successful and joked, “I’d never seen so much security. We all had such a good time!”

The Baileyton Town Council meets on the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at Baileyton Town Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
