HANCEVILLE – Fultondale was able to jump out to a quick start in Ray Talley Stadium Friday night when the Wildcats took down Hanceville 40-20, outscoring the Bulldogs 33-6 in the first half.

Fultondale found its way on the scoreboard in rushing and passing situations, along with a 40-yard punt return, while Hanceville did its best to stay out in front of the more aggressive Wildcats team.

Bulldogs running back RJ Evans capitalized late in the second quarter on an 8-yard scoring run to put Hanceville on the scoreboard trailing 19-6, following the missed extra point.

Fultondale quickly responded with an eight-play, 70-yard drive resulting in a touchdown to stretch the lead to 26-6. On its next possession, Fultondale took five plays to drive 60 yards to put the Wildcats up 33-6 going into the half.

Hanceville would not back down in the second half; the Bulldogs gained their composure, only allowing one scoring drive in the half for Fultondale.

Following a change at quarterback, Fred Ellis entered the game and quickly made an impact. He led Hanceville down the field on a six-play, 50-yard drive scoring drive, capped off when Ellis tossed the ball to Evans for the touchdown. The extra point was no good, leaving Hanceville trailing 40-12.

Ellis kept the team moving, despite several setbacks, and led the Bulldogs on another six-play drive, which was capped off by a Romael Simmons touchdown. Hanceville capitalized on the 2-point conversion, narrowing the deficit to 40-20. That score held, and Hanceville fell to Fultondale at home.

The loss moves the Bulldogs to 1-7 this fall. They will be on the road next week for another regional matchup with the (3-6) Locust Fork Hornets.
