CULLMAN COUNTY - Cullman County Animal Control confirmed that "several" people reported seeing a black bear in northeast Cullman County on Sunday.

Sgt. Chris Westmoreland said no one from animal control or the Cullman County Sheriff's Office has actually seen the bear (or bears), but there have been several reports made.

Westmoreland said bears in Cullman County are not that uncommon, saying the bear(s) is most likely just passing through headed to the mountains in Tennessee.

He also stressed that black bears are a protected species.

Back in January, the Alabama Department of Conservation and National Resource's David Rainer, in a weekly column, wrote that black bear sightings would likely increase this year and in the future. Read more here: www.cullmantribune.com/articles/2018/01/05/ever-seen-black-bear-alabama-....
