Saturday’s Cullman County ‘God and Country Ride’ to advocate for prayer in schools

CULLMAN – Saturday will be a big day for the Alabama Sons of Liberty as they, alongside the Christian Motorcycle Association, will be traveling on the Cullman County God and Country Ride to all Cullman County Schools. The caravan is making its way to each school in an effort to support prayer being allowed in schools and to pray for each of them to have a safe, successful school year. The riders will stop at each school for the Pledge of Allegiance and 15 minutes of prayer before making their way to the next school.

Alabama Sons of Liberty District 2 Coordinator Becki Fortner shared, “We’re going to start at 8 a.m. at Hanceville and make the loop to Welti and all the way around through the north side of the county and then end up at Good Hope later in the afternoon. We’ve done this before several years ago, and then we actually did it last year as well, but we’re with the Alabama Sons of Liberty Riders and we’re doing this in conjunction with the Christian Motorcycle Association. We’re just going to be going around to all of the county schools this Saturday and we’ll go and say the Pledge and pray at the school, specifically for the children and the administrators and the teachers and everyone that is involved with the school to have a safe school year.”

Fortner hopes that Saturday’s event will shed light on what she believes is a growing issue in schools across the country.

“You know, you see it on the news and everywhere lately that prayer is not really in school a whole lot anymore. So, we believe that we have the right to express free speech and the right to freedom of religion and we want to support things like saying the Pledge and allowing prayer back in the schools,” Fortner said. “We would love to have as many church members and teachers and administrators as possible to come out and support at each school and show that they share the same mindset.”
