STATE FISHING CHAMPIONSHIP: Raiders come in 2nd; Good Hope’s Williams, Taylor take 2nd place boat

JASPER - There were a handful of local teams out on Smith Lake over the weekend for the 2018 Alabama Student Angler Bass Fishing Association (ASABFA) State Championship and one of them, Good Hope High School, finished just a few points short of winning it all. The Raider finished with 3,334 total championship points, just 42 points behind first-place Alexandria.

In boat scores for the Raiders, Colton Williams and Chase Taylor took second place with 299 points, Landon Graham and Jesse Blackmon’s boat placed 15th with 286 points and the boat of Will Dickerson and Tucker Putman finished 17th with 284 points.

Connor Herald and Isaac Lancaster from Addison High School also put together a great performance on the water over the weekend, finishing in seventh place individually with 294 points, helping the Bulldogs finish 30th as a team with 2,781 total championship points.

The Vinemont Eagles were the last of the local schools competing, and they also had a boat finish with high scores. Eli Chambers and Hunter Herfurth’s boat racked up 274 points to take 27th place and help lead Vinemont to a 37th place finish at 2,611 points.
