PREP SOFTBALL: Carbon Hill upsets Vinemont at home, 14-3

VINEMONT - The Vinemont Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Bulldogs of Carbon Hill 14-3 Wednesday afternoon. The loss drops Vinemont to 0-9 as the team approaches the halfway point of the season.

Kortnee Chaffin got the start on the mound for the Lady Eagles and faced off against a strong lineup from Carbon Hill. The Lady Bulldogs struck first on an RBI triple in the top of the first. Carbon Hill brought in two more runs in the top half of the inning to take an early 3-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs added seven more runs in the second on six hits to stretch their lead to 10-0 headed into the bottom half of the inning.

Vinemont responded in the bottom of the second, starting with an RBI triple from Maddie Oliver that brought in Kylie Williams from first base. The Lady Eagles tacked on another run when Mackenzie Lawrence brought Oliver in on a fielder’s choice to cut the lead to 10-2 going into the third.

Chaffin got three quick outs in the top of the third and the Lady Eagles were able to bring another run home in the bottom half of the inning when Williams doubled into left field to score Corrina Saint from third. Williams led the way for Vinemont at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI and a walk in the loss.

Chaffin contained the Lady Bulldogs’ bats for another inning, but the Lady Eagles weren’t able to score again after the third. Carbon Hill put up two more runs in the fifth and the sixth to take a 14-3 lead and ended the game after six innings.

The Lady Eagles will get right back on the field Thursday when they travel to Oakman and try to keep improving with a lot of softball left ahead of them.
