Hanceville man ID'd as 1 of the victims in Saturday night head-on collision

BUG TUSSLE - Two people were killed Saturday night in a head-on collision in the 16000 block of Highway 69 South, south of Bug Tussle. One of the victims has been identified as Kevin William Crotty, 32, of Hanceville. Cullman County Coroner Jeremy L. Kilpatrick made the identification.

The identity of the second victim has not been released at this time, pending a forensic investigation, according to Kilpatrick.

According to Alabama State Troopers, Crotty was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and the second victim was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon Denali.

Troopers said the Impala crossed the center line and struck the Denali head on, resulting in the Denali being engulfed in flames. Crotty, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident happened at approximately 8:15 p.m.

Crews from the Cold Springs and Arkadelphia Volunteer Fire Departments responded, along with Cullman EMS and Troopers.

Nothing further is available as Troopers continue to investigate.
