Vinemont mulls recycling

VINEMONT - Vinemont Mayor Radginal Dodson, at this week’s council meeting, shared a request he received from a resident about establishing recycling services in Vinemont. Dodson said he has reached out to recycling companies in Cullman, but has yet to hear back on information regarding pickup procedures should the council decide to bring the service to the town.

Dodson said he is unsure if there is enough interest in the town to justify the cost of the program, saying, “We have five, six, 700 people in the town. If there was more interest in it, then I’m willing to spend the $600.”

In new business, the council agreed to purchase two iPads and one Square Stand to be used for concession sales at the sports complex. Dodson noted that the Square Stand not only acts as a calculator for totals and change, but also keeps track of inventory and items sold.

Cameras previously purchased will be installed at the Vinemont Town Hall in the near future, with no definite date set. The council said it rushed the installment of cameras at the Vinemont Community Center (the Scout House) to deter unapproved activity which, according to Dodson, was a more important endeavor.

Lastly, the council voted to amend the employee handbook for town employees to include a social media regulation section.

Vinemont voters should be aware that the Aug. 15 primary election will be held at the Vinemont Community Center, rather than the fire department.

Vinemont will hold its next council meeting on Sept. 12 at 6 p.m. at Vinemont Town Hall. The public is encouraged to attend. If you are unable to attend, but would like the council to hear your concerns, the town clerk can be reached at 256-737-5411 from 8 a.m.- 3 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-noon on Fridays.
