Cullman Christmas Festival and Market showcases local talent

CULLMAN - Cullman Christian School's Cullman Christmas Festival and Market (previously hosted by St. John's Church) took place on Saturday, boasting more than 50 unique vendors, providing great food and showing off some of Cullman’s top live entertainment groups. Traditional horse-drawn carriage rides gave the day a old-time Christmas feel.

The Cullman High School (CHS) Jazz Band, local entertainer Shannon McNeal and the Wallace State Singers were among those who provided live entertainment.

More than 150 gathered to watch the CHS Jazz Band perform.

Myles McLeroy, lead trombonist, said, “Many of our members have been rehearsing with us since August, and many of the members have been in for multiple years.”

McLeroy has been involved with the jazz band for four years and says both band director Christopher Smith and band members love to perform whenever possible.

“He loves performing for people; he just loves playing for the community. We love to perform; there’s just a feeling that you get… you finally get to put something that you’ve been working on for months to use.”

Whittney Heaton, member of the Wallace State Singers, shared about her group, “We’re an audition-only group, and we meet to practice four to five times a week.”

The group will be performing again Dec. 16-17 at the Betty Leeth Haynes Theatre when Wallace State presents “In the Mood for Christmas.”
