CULLMAN - On Thursday, March 3, the Cullman County Board of Education announced the names of the finalists for the position of superintendent. Of the twelve original applicants, four were chosen to move on to the next phase, the interview. They are as follows:

  1. Shane Barnette, principal of West Point Intermediate in the Cullman County School District
  2. Dr. Rick Carter, director of virtual programs for the Athens City School District
  3. Dr. Donald Snow, principal of Austin High School in the Decatur City School District
  4. Dr. Elizabeth Swinford, superintendent of Tuscaloosa County Schools

The finalists now move on to interviews, which will be held on March 15 at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the CCBOE’s central office boardroom. Each candidate will receive a copy of the 10 interview questions and one conclusion question that the CCBOE has selected prior to the interviews.

The new superintendent will be announced at a special CCBOE meeting on March 29.

“I would like to encourage as many of you that can- administrators, teachers and community folks, to come and listen to each applicant and feel free to voice your opinions to each and every one of us as well,” said Wendy Crider, CCBOE member.

CCBOE’s Interim Superintendent, Dr. Brandon Payne, will be leaving his role after the new superintendent comes on board. Payne, who was previously CCBOE’s assistant superintendent under Dr. Craig Ross and longtime principal of Vinemont High School, has accepted a position with LEAN Frog in Huntsville.
